A number of fans expressed their displeasure with New York Yankees pitcher Clay Holmes being selected for the All-Star team.
Holmes was one of three Yankees to make this year’s MLB All-Star list, announced on Sunday. The other Yankees selected were star outfielders Juan Soto and Aaron Judge.
While even the most ardent Yankees critics wouldn’t dispute the inclusion of Soto and Judge, Holmes doesn’t seem to garner the same level of respect. Fans took to X to voice their opinions, with many arguing that other relievers, like Baltimore Orioles closer Craig Kimbrel or Boston Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen, were more deserving. Cleveland Guardians fans also felt that Hunter Gaddis had a stronger case than Holmes.
Fans are naturally biased toward their own players, but Clay Holmes’ selection seemed to draw more criticism than usual from various fan bases, each suggesting he be replaced by their preferred pitcher.
Several users came prepared with extensive lists of relievers they believed were more deserving than Holmes. Names frequently mentioned included Baltimore Orioles closer Craig Kimbrel, Boston Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen, and Cleveland Guardians pitcher Hunter Gaddis, among others.
