Zach Root, East Carolina’s starting pitcher, is the most recent addition. He’s the 10th Division I player to commit to Arkansas. This past season, Root went 6-2 with a 3.56 ERA.On3 identified him as the best transfer portal pitcher on the market.
Dave Van Horn detailed the Hogs’ approach to the portal.
“It’s not like you’re going to have a lineup of really good runners that are more run scorers than producers,” stated the pitcher on June 26th. You’ve seen the games and are now watching the tournament. You’ve got to be able to hit it over their heads and hit some home runs. You’ve got to have some power. You need athletes who can steal a bag. Steal a bag while everyone is aware that you intend to steal it. For the most part, looks like we’re going to get these new guys and some of these young guys and a handful of JUCO guys.”
