Breaking: Gators Land Commitment For Another Top Talented Player

Florida State Continues Search for Final Pieces of 2025 Wide Receiver Class

Florida State will need to keep searching for the final pieces of their wide receiver class in the 2025 recruiting cycle. On Sunday afternoon, four-star wide receiver Vernell Brown III announced his commitment to the Florida Gators over FSU, Ohio State, and Miami. Brown was one of the Seminoles’ top uncommitted targets, but his ties to Gainesville made it a challenging recruitment.

Vernell Brown III Commits to Florida Gators

Despite Florida State’s efforts, including hosting Brown for an official visit at the end of June and leveraging relationships such as the close friendship between Brown and four-star quarterback Tramell Jones Jr., the Seminoles couldn’t secure his commitment. Brown grew up around the Florida program; his father played for the Gators from 2001-05 and was on staff from 2018-23. Currently, his father manages former UF quarterback and Indianapolis Colts rising star, Anthony Richardson.

Brown’s High School Performance and Prospects

As a junior at Jones High School, Brown caught 70 passes for 1,363 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also returning three punts and one kickoff for scores. He participates in track and field, where he is a two-time state qualifier in the triple jump with a personal best of 43-7.25. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound receiver is ranked as the No. 25 overall prospect, the No. 6 wide receiver, and the No. 5 recruit in Florida for the 2025 class according to 247Sports.

Florida State’s 2025 Recruiting Class

Florida State currently holds 12 verbal commitments in its 2025 class, which ranks No. 18 in the country. The Seminoles have commitments from two highly regarded receivers in the cycle: four-star Daylan McCutcheon and four-star CJ Wiley. However, with the loss of Brown to the Gators, the Seminoles will continue to search for additional talent to bolster their wide receiver class.
