Gator Baseball Recruits Matthew Jenkins from Santa Fe College
Last week, Gator baseball fans were surprised as Samford pitching transfer Michael Ross was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 18th round of the MLB draft. In response, Florida’s head coach Kevin O’Sullivan quickly recruited local talent, bringing in Lafayette alum and Santa Fe College pitcher, Matthew Jenkins.
Jenkins’ Background and Performance
Jenkins is well-acquainted with postseason play, having reached Fort Myers with the Hornets during his senior year. He continued his strong performance at Santa Fe College, forming a solid pitching duo with Justin Jackson. Jenkins finished second on the team in strikeouts, totaling 60, and posted a 7-5 record with a 4.76 ERA. One of his standout victories came against NJCAA rival, the College of Central Florida.
Gators’ Recruitment Class
The Gators have secured commitments from 15 recruits, including Cole Bullen from the College of Central Florida, and six transfers, among them Jenkins. This influx of talent aims to bolster the team’s prospects for the upcoming season.
