Breaking: Florida Gators Land Commitment For Another Experienced Player

Bobby Boser, an infielder for USF, inked a transfer portal commitment with Florida baseball on Wednesday afternoon, making him the team’s seventh offseason commitment. According to 64 Analytics, Boser is ranked as the fifth best uncommitted player and the 57th overall prospect on the transfer platform.

In 34 games during the previous season, the 6’1, 209-pound infielder slashed.299/.351/.667 with 12 home runs and 32 RBI. Boser was named to the 2024 All-AAC First Team in spite of missing 22 games due to a hand injury sustained during his time with the Bulls.

In 55 games played, including 52 starts, Boser set career highs in batting average (.323), on base percentage (.445), home runs (15), stolen bases (8), and RBI (41). He also had a breakout season during his sophomore year. Boser tied for sixth place all-time in program single-season history with his 15 home runs in 2023. In his second season, the Wesley Chapel, Florida native was named to the 2023 Cape Cod League All-Star team and the 2023 All-AAC First Team.

In 38 games, including 24 starts, as a true freshman, Boser hit.198 with four home runs and five doubles.

Boser, who spent his three years as a collegiate player starting at every position on the diamond save for catcher and pitcher, is listed as a utility player on the USF roster. Boser started 17 games at second base, 11 at shortstop, and 2 at third base in 2024. Boser started 33 games in 2023, 12 at shortstop, 4 at second base, and 2 at third base.

He’ll probably stay in the infield for Florida because the Gators should have a large outfield starting next season. Although Boser has only made four career appearances at third base, there is a slot available there, so I doubt Kevin O’Sullivan would be prepared to deploy Boser as the hot corner’s primary starter. If needed, he may also view time at DH.

Boser’s 2023 season, in which he made just one error and had a.994 fielding percentage, was the high point of his career.981 fielding percentage.

Boser’s swing and miss is his glaring offensive flaw. In 402 career at-bats, Boser has struck out 143 times for a strikeout percentage of 35.5%. Though he struck out on 29.9% of his at-bats in 2024 compared to 38.9% and 37.4% in his previous two seasons, Boser did make more contact in that season.

Boser is now a summer ball player for Wareham in the Cape Cod League, where he is hitting.319 in 21 games with six doubles and two home runs.

The College World Series squad from the previous season, which includes Cade Kurland, Luke Heyman, Brody Donay, Colby Shelton, and Ty Evans, will have another offensive weapon added to their lineup in 2025.
