Breaking: Yankees Lands $14 Million Deal For Another Star Player

The Yankees from New York are 60-43. In the American League East, they are only 1.5 games behind the Baltimore Orioles. The team has gone a little off course during a span of 10–21, but they still have time to recruit players before the deadline. A trade package that would send Jack Flaherty from the Detroit Tigers to New York was put out by Chris Kirschner of The Athletic.

This is the trade that Kirschner suggested to turn Flaherty into a Yankee:

Jack Flaherty, a right-handed pitcher, is sent to the Yankees.
Everson Pereira, an outfielder, and right-handed pitcher Will Warren are acquired by the Tigers.

Flaherty Might Support the Yankees’ Scheduling
The Yankees’ starting pitching hasn’t always been a problem. With a 3.62 ERA, the team’s starting pitchers rank No. 5 in the league this season. They have a 3.55 ERA as a unit. Still, Flaherty might be able to improve the rotation.

After Gerrit Cole, Flaherty emerged as the Yankees’ second-best pitcher right away. Kirschner stated, “This season, Flaherty is among the finest strikeout pitchers in baseball and one of the best at minimizing base runners. “The Yankees could move one of their current starters, like Luis Gil, who has workload concerns, to the bullpen by adding Flaherty.”

On June 19, Cole made his season debut. His ERA in six starts is 4.60. In contrast, he appears to be himself in his last two appearances. After two consecutive excellent outings, he has struck out 15 batters in 12 innings.

Nestor Cortes, Carlos Rodón, Gil, and Marcus Stroman are the Yankees’ bench behind Cole. Leading that group with 3.10 and 3.51 ERAs, respectively, are Gil and Stroman. This season, Flaherty has made 17 starts and has a 3.13 ERA. The Yankees would be led by his 127 strikeouts.

The Trade Market of Flaherty
As said by Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. The Tigers intend to move Flaherty but won’t trade Tarik Skubal until an offer completely stuns them. In free agency, he agreed to a $14 million, one-year contract with the Tigers. The Tigers will try to obtain as much value as they can trade him because he will be a free agent once more in the offseason.

Flaherty, who has made 17 starts and is 7-5 with a 3.13 ERA, is enjoying a fantastic comeback season. Jim Bowden of The Athletic stated, “The 28-year-old is pitching like he did during his best years with St. Louis and is in good health.” “From an average farm system, the Tigers should be able to acquire a top-seven prospect, or two top-15 prospects, in exchange for him. After this season, Flaherty will be free to sign with another team.

Before the July 30 trade deadline, the Yankees would “be open-minded to a lot of different things,” general manager Brian Cashman told reporters on July 9. Although adding Flaherty won’t improve the offensive woes, it might be beneficial in October.

Kirschner stated, “One of the best playoff rotations in the American League would be a lineup that included Cole and Flaherty at the top.”
