Donta Simpson, a defensive tackle for Chaminade-Madonna Prep, verbally committed to Miami on Friday, having previously pledged to Maryland.
“Blessed and thankful to ALL through my journey!” Simpson shared content on social media. “The timing of God is crucial! I hereby declare my unwavering commitment to the Miami Hurricanes!”
After attending Miami’s summer picnic last weekend, Simpson—a three-star prospect with an 86-grade and the 122nd-ranked defensive lineman in the 2025 class—spoke with current Hurricane freshman safety Zaquan Patterson and soon after received an offer.
He is the 20th commitment and the second defensive lineman in Miami’s 2025 class, which has now surpassed Oklahoma for the ninth-ranked class according to 247Sports.
A visit to the campus on Tuesday for the Hurricanes’ first fall practice reinforced his commitment to the program he has admired since childhood.
“I’ve always wanted to play for Miami,” Simpson said last week. “I’ve been a fan my whole life.”
Although he grew up attending Hurricanes games, Simpson hadn’t visited the campus until this past weekend.
“I already love it here; it feels like family,” he said. “The people are amazing.”
Last season, Simpson contributed significantly to the Lions’ Class 1M state championship victory, recording 43 tackles, 19.5 for a loss, 7.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles.
Chaminade-Madonna Prep has produced several players for Miami over the years, including Patterson and freshman wide receiver JoJo Trader. Fellow senior Chris Ewald, a four-star cornerback, is also verbally committed to Miami.
In June, Simpson chose Miami over Maryland, West Virginia, and FAU.
