Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras has found himself at the center of trade rumors, with the Montreal Canadiens being one of the potential landing spots.
Zegras is entering the second year of his three-year, $17.25 million contract. Despite being a former first-round pick and only 23 years old, he’s been the subject of ongoing trade speculation. A user on PuckPedia’s new PuckGM tool recently proposed a trade scenario where the Canadiens would acquire Zegras.
Proposed Trade:
- Canadiens Receive:
- Trevor Zegras
- 2026 second-round pick
- Ducks Receive:
- Michael Hage
- Logan Mailloux
In this hypothetical deal, Zegras would reunite with his close friend Cole Caufield and likely slot in as Montreal’s second-line center, adding depth to the team. Last season, Zegras played 31 games, scoring 6 goals and 9 assists for a total of 15 points.
For Anaheim, the proposed trade would bring in two prospects: Michael Hage, who was picked 21st overall in the 2024 NHL Draft after scoring 75 points in 34 USHL games last season, and Logan Mailloux, a first-round pick from the 2021 draft who recorded one assist in his single NHL game with the Canadiens last season.
Zegras has admitted that the trade rumors have been tough on him, saying in an interview with The Athletic that it’s hard to ignore the speculation, though he trusts Ducks GM Pat Verbeek to make the best decisions for the team.
Zegras has played in 211 NHL games, tallying 55 goals and 99 assists for 154 points.
The Montreal Canadiens are among several NHL teams reportedly interested in Zegras. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, at least eight teams, including the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, and Philadelphia Flyers, have shown serious interest. However, with two years remaining on Zegras’ contract, Anaheim is under no immediate pressure to move him.
