The Buffalo Sabres have once again disappointed their fans, missing the playoffs for the 13th consecutive season, leaving many in the organization on the hot seat.
HOT SEAT: TERRY PEGULA, OWNER
Terry Pegula, who has owned the Sabres since 2011, is under intense scrutiny. In his 13 years of ownership, the Sabres have cycled through four GMs and seven coaches, including two separate stints with current head coach Lindy Ruff. Despite his purchase likely preventing the franchise from relocating, the Sabres have seen little success under Pegula’s ownership. If the Sabres fail to make the playoffs again this season, there could be growing pressure for Pegula to sell the team.
COLD SEAT: RASMUS DAHLIN, DEFENSEMAN
Rasmus Dahlin remains secure in his position with the Sabres. The 24-year-old Swedish defenseman, who recently signed an eight-year, $88 million contract, had a strong season, scoring a career-best 20 goals and tying for the team lead in points. While his point total dipped slightly in 2022-23, Dahlin is still seen as a cornerstone of the franchise. His importance to the team, especially alongside fellow defenseman Owen Power, makes his role untouchable. Dahlin’s commitment to the Sabres, even during challenging times, has solidified his place in Buffalo.
