Defensive lineman Antonio Coleman has been a prominent figure throughout his recruitment journey, making headlines for flipping his commitment between rival schools three times.
The four-star prospect initially committed to Alabama last September. However, a few months later, he switched his allegiance to Auburn. That decision, too, was short-lived, as he re-committed to Alabama in March after being impressed by Kalen DeBoer’s new coaching staff in Tuscaloosa. Many believed this third pledge would be final, but in a surprising move, Coleman flipped back to Auburn under head coach Hugh Freeze.
Shortly after this latest flip, a rumor began circulating on social media suggesting that Coleman had been arrested.
Antonio Coleman quickly debunked these rumors on Thursday. An arrest record of a man named Anthony Coleman surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) earlier in the week. Although the mugshot was cropped out, some Alabama fans mistakenly assumed that the individual in question was the four-star prospect.
This assumption was proven false. Auburn supporters uncovered the full arrest record, which included a mugshot clearly showing a much older man, not the 17-year-old Antonio Coleman.
Coleman confirmed that the rumor was baseless with a statement on social media. Given the spread of misinformation, many Alabama fans owe him an apology. If he was considering another flip back to the Crimson Tide, this incident might make him reconsider.
Currently, Coleman is ranked as the 100th-best recruit in 247 Sports’ rankings. The site also lists him as the 10th-best player in Alabama and the 14th-best player at his position. If Hugh Freeze can secure Coleman’s commitment, it would be a significant in-state win for Auburn as they continue their rebuilding efforts.
