Juan Soto is expected to be a highly sought-after free agent after the season, with one team emerging as the favorite to sign him, according to a report.
In a column published by Jon Heyman of the New York Post on Thursday, he analyzed the odds of various teams potentially landing Soto. Heyman considers the Yankees as the frontrunners, giving them even money odds to sign Soto, who has been outstanding in his first season with the team. The Mets were next in line with 5-1 odds, followed by the Dodgers at a distant 15-1.
Heyman believes the competition for Soto will likely come down to a two-team race between the Yankees and Mets, with the Yankees holding the advantage.
The Yankees acquired Soto and Trent Grisham from the Padres in December, trading five players in the process. Despite the high cost, Soto has excelled for the Yankees, boasting a .307 batting average, 24 doubles, 34 home runs, and a 1.052 OPS, while also leading the league with 102 walks.
Soto has done nearly everything to convince the Yankees to retain him. The question remains whether they will meet the financial demands of the 25-year-old, who previously turned down a significant offer from the Nationals.
