One of Georgia’s standout moments this summer was securing a commitment from wide receiver Tyler Williams. Although James Coley and the coaching staff had been in the mix throughout the spring, it wasn’t until after Williams’ official visit in June that Georgia emerged as a serious contender. Williams has shared with Dawgs247 the reasons behind his decision to commit to the Bulldogs and, nearly two months later, his confidence in that choice remains strong. “I feel good. I have a real good relationship with all them. It’s good to not have to worry about it too much and just focus on my season,” Williams told 247Sports.
Williams, who plays for Armwood High School in Florida, plans to attend Georgia’s season opener against Clemson at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Although he hasn’t scheduled a visit to Athens yet, he intends to do so. Before committing to Georgia, Miami was considered the frontrunner for Williams, and despite his commitment, the Hurricanes, along with UCF and Auburn, have continued to pursue him. “Miami is still very persistent. So is UCF and Auburn. Those are the schools that still talk to me,” Williams said. “I’m definitely going to have an open mind. I’m locked in, but I appreciate them for continuing to try to recruit me, and it means a lot.”
Auburn’s interest in Williams is a recent development, while his strong relationships at UCF keep the Knights in the conversation until Signing Day. However, Miami remains the biggest threat to Georgia’s hold on Williams. Although there’s no indication that Williams plans to decommit, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him visit Miami for a game this season. “Miami, they’re definitely somebody I like. I love Miami. I love the coaching staff. I love the environment. I appreciate them continuing to recruit me. It shows me they still truly want me,” he said. “They won’t stop. They won’t stop recruiting me. It means a lot because a lot of schools give up and stuff. They show they’ll continue to show up for me. That definitely will mean a lot. I’ll definitely make a few games to see them.”
Recently, Williams showcased his talent by catching a touchdown pass during his new Armwood team’s Week 0 jamboree. Standing at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, Williams has climbed the receiver rankings to No. 42 overall, with a chance to crack the Top247 if he continues to perform well in his senior season.
