On Tuesday, nearly 1,000 NFL players were placed on waivers as all 32 teams reduced their rosters to 53 players. Among those waived was Neville Gallimore, a former defensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys, who was subsequently released by the Miami Dolphins. By the following day, Gallimore had reached an agreement to join the Los Angeles Rams.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Gallimore was set to finalize his deal with the Rams on Tuesday night. Over his four-season career, the former third-round draft pick has played in 52 games, accumulating 90 tackles, four sacks, and three passes defended.
Miami’s decision to cut Gallimore was somewhat surprising, especially considering his $1.79 million contract was guaranteed. Following his move to the Rams, the Dolphins will no longer be responsible for his $1.1 million guaranteed salary, as noted by Chris Kouffman, co-host of 3 Yards Per Carry. With Christian Wilkins having signed a five-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders earlier in the free agency period, Miami will start the season with Zach Sieler, Calais Campbell, Da’Shawn Hand, Benito Jones, and Brandon Pili on their defensive line.
Sieler commented on the transition, stating, “Christian was a huge presence on the field and in everything he did. We’ve discussed as a defensive line that with some players leaving and new faces coming in, we need to collectively bring that energy every day. I believe we did a great job of that throughout camp.”
