The Minnesota Vikings secured a two-year contract extension with defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, a crucial player for their run defense and one of their most dependable contributors.
Phillips, 28, is entering his third season with the Vikings. In their season opener against the New York Giants, he made a notable impact with five tackles, one sack, one quarterback hurry, and a pass deflection.
The Vikings’ defense was stout in that game, allowing just 240 yards and six points. Over his first two seasons with the Vikings, Phillips has started every game.
Last year, he reached a career-high 92 tackles, the second most among NFL defensive linemen, trailing only Derrick Brown who had 103.
Phillips’ presence in the middle of the defense contributed to the Vikings allowing an average of just 3.76 yards per rush in 2023, which was the fourth-best in the league.
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Phillips was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft after his college career at Stanford.
This season, he has been named one of the eight team captains for the Vikings and has also been a three-time nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.
