Yankees outfielder has sustained a fracture in his left fibula, according to the team’s announcement.
Gamel has been placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to September 15. He incurred the injury during Saturday’s game while attempting to catch a fly ball off Angels player Mickey Moniak and collided with the outfield fence.
Gamel signed a minor league contract with the Mets this offseason and was called up in late June when Starling Marte was injured. After playing 18 games, the Mets designated him for assignment, and he was subsequently claimed off waivers by the Astros.
In his time with the Mets, Gamel recorded five hits in 23 at-bats, resulting in a .217 batting average and a .661 OPS.
Throughout his nine-year MLB career, Gamel has played for the Mets, Astros, Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Cleveland Guardians, and New York Yankees. He was selected by the Yankees in the 10th round of the 2010 draft.
