Major Breaking: Florida Gators Confirm The Exit Of Another Key Player Of The Team

The Florida Gators’ commitment list saw a reduction on Sunday when four-star safety Demetres Samuel Jr. from Palm Bay (Fla.) Heritage flipped his commitment from Florida back to Syracuse.

Samuel had originally committed to Syracuse as a 2026 prospect before switching to Florida in late July after reclassifying to the 2025 class. His change in allegiance came after a recent visit to Gainesville, which had initially seemed promising.

This past weekend, Samuel visited Syracuse and returned ready to rejoin the Orange. His commitment to Syracuse dates back to March 30 of this year, when he was still classified as a 2026 prospect.

After flipping to Florida on July 31, Samuel expressed a desire to explore other options, which ultimately led to his recent decision.

With Samuel’s departure, the Gators now have no commitments for the 2025 recruiting class at the safety position.

Their overall commitment list for 2025 stands at 13 verbal pledges as the end of August approaches. The class includes notable recruits such as four-star wide receiver Vernell Brown III from Orlando, four-star edge rusher Jalen Wiggins from Tallahassee, and four-star cornerback Ben Hanks Jr. from Miami.

According to 247Sports, Samuel is currently ranked as the No. 242 overall prospect in the 2025 recruiting class and the No. 21 safety in the nation, reflecting his potential and skill set.

This shift in commitments emphasizes the ever-changing landscape of college recruiting as programs vie for top talent.
