NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported late Saturday that Super Star South Carolina Deebo Samuel is set to return to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday after missing last week’s game due to a calf injury.
While Samuel is listed as questionable on the team’s official injury report, Schultz’s report indicates that the dynamic playmaker intends to take the field despite this designation.
In the first two games of the 2024 season, Samuel made a significant impact with 13 receptions for 164 yards, a rushing touchdown, and 10 first downs.
His strong start has put him in contention for another Pro Bowl appearance. With star running back Christian McCaffrey sidelined, Samuel’s role is expected to be crucial, provided he is physically able to handle the demands.
During his time at South Carolina, Deebo Samuel was one of the most electrifying players to wear the garnet and black. He holds the program’s record for the most kickoff returns for touchdowns, having scored on two of his only opportunities in 2017.
Notably, he is the only player in school history to have a kickoff return touchdown in three different seasons, achieving this feat in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
In addition to his special teams prowess, Samuel excelled as a receiver, ranking among the top 11 Gamecocks in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns, despite playing fewer games than most above him on those lists, except for Sidney Rice.
His versatility was evident as he also rushed for seven touchdowns on just 25 carries and even threw for two scores, showcasing his all-around talent.
