Live Update: South Carolina Secured Elite Player From Opposing Team “I’M COMING HOME!

South Carolina has secured a transfer quarterback. On Wednesday evening, the Gamecocks received a commitment from Davis Beville, a redshirt senior from Oklahoma, who will be joining the team for his final year of college football.

Beville announced on X (formerly Twitter), “I’M COMING HOME! Thank you @CoachSBeamer @Dowell_Loggains for the opportunity, let’s get to work!” He will be joining the team as a preferred walk-on, as reported by TheBigSpur.

Davis Beville was a three-star recruit from Greenville High School in the Class of 2019 and initially committed to Pittsburgh under coach Pat Narduzzi. Over three seasons with the Panthers, he played in nine games but did not start any.

In 2022, he transferred to Oklahoma during Brent Venables’ first season as head coach. While with the Sooners, Beville participated in seven games, making his only collegiate start in the 2022 Red River Rivalry against Texas, where he completed six of twelve passes for 38 yards and threw an interception in a 49-0 defeat.

Beville will join a South Carolina quarterback room that is in urgent need of depth. With Luke Doty shifting his focus primarily to wide receiver, the Gamecocks currently have redshirt sophomore LaNorris Sellers and true freshman Dante Reno at quarterback.

Although Sellers is the likely starter, South Carolina has been actively pursuing several transfer quarterbacks, including A.J. Swann from Vanderbilt (now at LSU), Maalik Murphy from Texas (now at Duke), and Zeon Chriss from Louisiana (now at Houston).

Coach Shane Beamer has emphasized that he won’t guarantee any transfer a starting position, stating during his signing day press conference that he offers the opportunity to compete, not a promise of a starting job.

It appears Beville is ready to compete for the position, raising the question of whether the coaching staff will pursue another transfer quarterback.
