TEAM UPDATE: The Yankees Coach Aaron Boone Gives Injury Update On Another Key Player

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced that Nestor Cortes will play catch on Sunday, marking his first time throwing since being placed on the 15-day injured list due to an elbow injury, as reported by Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News.

This injury was a setback for the Yankees’ pitching staff during the postseason, as Cortes was a candidate to start Game 3 of the ALDS.

After a thrilling 6-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, the Yankees lead the series 1-0, but Boone still needs to choose between Luis Gil and Clarke Schmidt for the Game 3 start. Gerrit Cole pitched in Game 1, while Carlos Rodon is set to start Game 2 in the Bronx before the series moves to Kansas City.

Following a more detailed assessment of Cortes’ injury, the team aimed for him to potentially return later in the postseason, whether as a starter or in a bullpen role. If the Yankees advance to the ALCS, it will be intriguing to see if Cortes makes the roster and how he could impact the team’s chances moving forward.

The Yankees narrowly secured a 6-5 victory over the Royals in Game 1, despite a few challenges. Gerrit Cole didn’t have his best outing, and Anthony Volpe committed a crucial error that allowed Kansas City to score two runs.

Additionally, Aaron Judge struggled throughout the game. Nevertheless, the Yankees managed to clinch the win.

Game 2 poses a significant challenge, as Carlos Rodon faces the Royals’ top pitcher, Cole Ragans. Securing a win would be vital for New York, allowing them to take a 2-0 lead in the series before heading to Kansas City.

Should the Yankees advance, they would face the winner of the series between the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians. Regardless of their opponent, New York would have the advantage of home field in the next round.
