The LSU football community is grieving the loss of a beloved longtime staff member, Charles Baglio, who passed away on Friday night, October 18.
According to Louisiana State Police, Baglio was involved in a crash on US Hwy 51 in Tangipahoa Parish. After an initial collision with another vehicle, he exited his car to check on the other driver. Tragically, as he returned to his vehicle, he was struck by another vehicle traveling southbound.
Baglio was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Louisiana State Police is conducting an investigation.
He dedicated 20 years to LSU as the football director of external relations, playing a vital role during three national championships and four SEC titles under three different head coaches.
Prior to his time at LSU, Baglio had a distinguished 34-year coaching career at Independence High School, where he served as head coach for over two decades.
He ranks among the top 50 winningest coaches in Louisiana high school football history, amassing 205 victories and earning induction into the LHSAA Hall of Fame in 2001.
Baglio was 81 years old.
