MAJOR BREAKING: Gamecocks Suffer Setback As Commitment Flips Just Before Game

South Carolina’s 2025 recruiting class has recently faced a setback, losing a commitment just days ahead of their most significant game of the season.

Three-star tight end Preston Douglas, who had pledged to the Gamecocks back in June, announced on Halloween that he would be switching his commitment to NC State.

While this loss is notable, it isn’t the most devastating blow to the 2025 class, which still boasts 20 commitments, including five wide receivers.

However, this shift leaves South Carolina without any tight end commitments in that recruiting cycle, creating a gap in their roster plans.

Douglas, a 6-foot-3 athlete from Florida, has showcased his versatility at the Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, where he plays both tight end and defense. In his senior season, he has accumulated 16 receptions for 225 yards and three touchdowns, along with 11 tackles and three sacks on defense.

On a positive note, South Carolina hasn’t experienced significant losses among their commitments, with Douglas being only the third player to change his commitment in recent months.

Previously, four-star cornerback Shamari Earls switched to Georgia, and three-star linebacker Jaiden Baker committed to LSU. Head coach Shane Beamer was active on the recruiting trail during the bye week, so there is hope he may secure a tight end or flip another player to strengthen the 2025 class.

The Gamecocks are also set to face Texas A&M this weekend while hosting potential recruits for both the 2025 and 2026 classes.
