The New York Yankees have several significant gaps to address this offseason. First and foremost, they need to either re-sign Juan Soto (their preferred option) or find a replacement star outfielder.
In addition to that, they have needs on the right side of the infield and within the pitching staff. With Anthony Rizzo departing this offseason, the Yankees are in search of a much-improved first baseman. While the market for quality first basemen is limited, the Yankees are expected to target one of the top available options.
One such target is Christian Walker, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ first baseman. FanSided’s Nick Villano recently projected that Walker could sign with the Yankees in free agency. Spotrac forecasts that Walker could land a three-year, $66 million deal, though he might secure a higher value.
Villano pointed out that the Yankees are well-positioned to sign Walker, as they already have DJ LeMahieu, who is looking to bounce back, and are eager to replace a declining Rizzo. With Aaron Judge in the lineup and further additions expected, the Yankees can offer Walker everything he’s looking for.
Walker would be an excellent fit for the Yankees. His presence would solidify their infield and improve their defense, as he’s a multi-time Gold Glove winner. However, acquiring him from the Diamondbacks won’t be easy, as Walker is likely to be Arizona’s top priority this winter.
