The New York Yankees had their most successful season in over a decade this year, but they still fell short against the dominant Los Angeles Dodgers.
As they head into the offseason, the Yankees’ focus will be on improving their roster to become competitive again, particularly by adding players to challenge the Dodgers and other teams. A key priority for manager Aaron Boone is to bring Juan Soto back to the Yankees and into his lineup.
Beyond that, there are numerous appealing free agents available. Since the Yankees couldn’t beat the Dodgers, it might be wise to start poaching their players, starting with free agent pitcher Walker Buehler. MLB Network’s Jon Morosi recently reported that the Yankees and Buehler have expressed mutual interest in a deal.
Buehler could be a solid addition to the Yankees, with Spotrac projecting a one-year, $3.9 million contract, though he could potentially secure a higher value. At that price, the Yankees could sign Buehler and use him to trade pitchers like Nestor Cortes or Marcus Stroman, which would strengthen their rotation and potentially bring in prospects.
Signing Buehler would also slightly weaken the Dodgers, and any advantage, no matter how small, is worth pursuing. The combination of the fit, affordability, and market conditions makes this move one the Yankees should seriously consider.
