South Carolina football is facing a significant loss with the departure of one of its longest-tenured players, redshirt senior linebacker Mohamed Kaba. Kaba, who has been a key part of the Gamecocks’ defense throughout his career, announced he will be stepping away from the team. His departure marks the end of a notable chapter for the linebacker, who has been with the program since 2019.
Kaba’s time at South Carolina has been defined by perseverance and growth. After joining the team as a highly touted recruit, he spent several years working his way up the depth chart.
Although injuries hampered his early seasons, Kaba’s resilience allowed him to eventually earn a starting role. Over the past few years, he developed into a leader on the field, known for his physicality and leadership in the linebacker corps.
Throughout his career, Kaba played in 37 games, accumulating 150 tackles, including 8.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks. His ability to read the game and disrupt opposing offenses made him a valuable asset to the Gamecocks’ defense. His presence on the field will certainly be missed as the team looks to fill the void left by his departure.
South Carolina’s coaching staff and teammates have expressed their gratitude for Kaba’s contributions, both on and off the field.
Head coach Shane Beamer praised his work ethic and leadership, noting that Kaba had been a mentor to younger players and a source of inspiration for the entire program. Kaba’s commitment to his team and his development over the years has left a lasting impact on the South Carolina football community.
Looking ahead, the Gamecocks will now have to adjust their defensive schemes and find a replacement for Kaba’s role. As the team moves forward, they will rely on younger linebackers and potentially incoming recruits to step up and continue the defensive legacy Kaba helped build.
Despite the loss of one of their leaders, South Carolina remains focused on competing at a high level in the SEC, with Kaba’s influence continuing to be felt within the program.
