MAJOR-BREAKING: Yankees Land Two-Time All-Star Player From Brewers in Blockbuster Trade

The New York Yankees are focused on making a strong push for the 2025 World Series. After falling short in the most recent Fall Classic, the team is looking to strengthen its roster across several positions to ensure a successful season.

The front office plans to part ways with first baseman Anthony Rizzo and second baseman Gleyber Torres, while continuing discussions with superstar outfielder Juan Soto regarding a long-term deal. Additionally, the team could target a top-tier starting pitcher.

However, if the Yankees aim for another deep playoff run, they may need to prioritize bolstering their bullpen.

David Schoenfield of ESPN highlighted the Yankees’ need for late-game relief and suggested they pursue Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams. Schoenfield pointed out that with free agents Clay Holmes and Tommy Kahnle, the Yankees are in need of late-inning depth and should prepare for the possibility that Luke Weaver may not replicate his strong 2024 performance.

If Weaver does live up to expectations, a bullpen duo of him and Williams could be formidable. Schoenfield also noted that the Brewers might be wise to trade Williams to an American League team and that the Yankees possess a strong pitching prospect pool that could interest Milwaukee.

Williams, who missed the start of the 2024 season due to a stress fracture in his back, returned to record 14 saves and 38 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. Over his six seasons with the Brewers, he’s earned two All-Star selections and two Reliever of the Year Awards.

As he enters his final year of contract arbitration, the Brewers could look to trade him before he potentially departs for a major free-agent deal. Schoenfield emphasized that the Yankees, with five top-10 pitching prospects, could offer a solid trade package for Williams.

If the Yankees see a premium bullpen addition as crucial to their championship aspirations, acquiring Williams could be the key move to make in 2025.
