With Juan Soto now a member of the New York Mets, the New York Yankees must act swiftly to adjust their plans and build a competitive roster for 2025.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Yankees are among the teams expressing interest in free-agent outfielder Anthony Santander. The Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox are also reportedly in the mix for his services.
Santander, 30, spent his entire MLB career with the Baltimore Orioles until now. Known for his switch-hitting ability and impressive power, he enjoyed a career-best season last year, hitting 44 home runs with 102 RBIs and posting an .814 OPS. His offensive production and versatility make him an attractive option as a potential replacement for Soto.
Adding Santander would strengthen the Yankees’ lineup, particularly given Yankee Stadium’s hitter-friendly dimensions. His ability to hit from both sides of the plate would be especially valuable as the team focuses on allocating financial resources to support Aaron Judge and other key pieces.
However, even with Santander in the fold, the Yankees would still need to address other gaps—most notably on the right side of the infield—given the likely departures of Gleyber Torres and Anthony Rizzo.
Replacing Soto won’t be easy, but Santander could represent a strong fallback option as the Yankees look to retool. With the Winter Meetings now underway, his market is expected to gain momentum quickly.
