South Carolina football hasn’t been hit too hard by the transfer portal this offseason, as few key starters have entered the portal. However, the team has experienced some notable departures among backup pass-catchers, with four wide receivers and three tight ends transferring out.
There’s a glimmer of hope for the Gamecocks, though. One of the top wide receivers currently in the transfer portal has narrowed down his list of potential schools, and South Carolina is reportedly on that list.
KC Concepcion, a standout pass-catcher from NC State, could provide a major boost to the Gamecocks’ receiving corps if he commits.
Concepcion signed with NC State two years ago and has shown flashes of potential. His breakout season came in 2023 when he tallied 71 receptions for 839 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 11.8 yards per catch.
Although his production dipped slightly in 2024—53 receptions for 460 yards and six touchdowns (8.7 yards per catch)—he remains a versatile threat, particularly with solid hands and speed to pair with quarterback LaNorris Sellers.
Beyond his receiving ability, Concepcion can contribute in the rushing game as well. In 2023, he rushed for 320 yards on 41 carries but was limited in 2024 with just 36 rushing yards on 19 attempts.
KC Concepcion
South Carolina has already lost four wide receivers to the portal, although they’re expected to retain key talents like Jared Brown and Nyck Harbor. Bringing in Concepcion could give them the depth and offensive firepower they need to strengthen their passing attack and support their quarterback.
However, competition will be fierce. South Carolina is battling SEC rivals like Alabama and Texas A&M, as well as ACC and Big 12 heavyweights such as Miami, Florida State, and Colorado, in pursuit of Concepcion’s services. If the Gamecocks can secure him, it would represent a major addition to their offense for the 2024 season.
