The New York Yankees have shifted to their backup plan after failing to re-sign superstar outfielder Juan Soto, and so far, the strategy is working well. Over the past few weeks, the team has secured Max Fried and Devin Williams and is reportedly pursuing additional free agents.
One of the primary targets on their list is first baseman Christian Walker, who would address a significant need at first base for manager Aaron Boone. Reports suggest that the Yankees are favorites to land Walker, though Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller predicts otherwise.
Miller believes Walker will likely sign a three-year, $75 million contract with the Washington Nationals instead. According to Miller, while the Yankees may have the upper hand due to their first-base situation, this could be an excellent opportunity for the Nationals to invest in Walker as a veteran leader.
With only a few players on the roster outside their 20s, the Nationals could use Walker’s experience to strengthen their clubhouse as they continue to develop their young talent. Washington might need to overextend their budget to secure Walker, but the move would solidify their position and bring leadership to their roster.
