South Carolina football added another player from the transfer portal on Wednesday night, with Grambling State linebacker Andrew Jones committing to join the Gamecocks.
He is the third transfer to commit to South Carolina on Wednesday, following Kentucky’s Jordan Dingle and Texas A&M’s Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy. Jones has one year of eligibility remaining. During his junior season at Grambling State, Jones posted impressive stats with 122 tackles (20.5 for loss) and three sacks.
He was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and is a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, which honors the top player in the Football Championship Subdivision. Jones will be playing for his third college, having originally signed with Memphis in 2021 as a four-star recruit.
He spent two seasons there before transferring to Grambling State. After entering the transfer portal earlier this month, Jones visited South Carolina and Oklahoma State.
The Gamecocks are losing two starters at linebacker, Debo Williams and Demetrius Knight, both former transfers, as well as Bam Martin-Scott. With Jones’ addition, South Carolina has brought in five players from the transfer portal this cycle.
