HUGE-BOOST: Yankees Sign A Highly Regarded Prospect From The Chicago Cubs

Brennen Davis, once a highly regarded prospect for the Chicago Cubs, has signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees.

Davis, 25, was once considered a top-tier talent, even ranking as high as 15th on MLB Pipeline’s top-100 prospect list ahead of the 2022 season. This came after a strong 2021 performance where he finished the season playing 15 games at Triple-A as a 21-year-old.

However, a series of injuries hindered his progress, and after struggling with his development in recent years, the Cubs designated him for assignment earlier this offseason. Davis was originally drafted by the Cubs in the second round of the 2018 draft

. Despite his early promise, a string of injuries, including back and leg issues, derailed his career. His 2024 season was prematurely ended due to a broken leg, adding to a history of injuries that had already slowed his ascent to the majors.

At one point, Davis was seen as a key part of the Cubs’ future, but his struggles with health ultimately led to his departure from the team. Now with the Yankees, he will look to revive his career and fulfill the potential that made him a highly rated prospect just a few years ago.
