The New York Yankees could look drastically different in 2025 compared to the team that made it to the World Series this year. They have already signed players like Fernando Cruz, Max Fried, Devin Williams, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt, while parting ways with Jose Trevino and Gleyber Torres. Additionally, Juan Soto has left through free agency.
More changes may follow, with Zachary Rotman of FanSided predicting that Marcus Stroman could be traded this winter, following Torres’ departure. Though New York has reportedly explored trading Stroman, no deal has been made yet.
“By adding Max Fried, the Yankees now have seven starting pitchers with MLB experience. Trading Nestor Cortes reduced that number to six, but a six-man rotation is still unnecessary,” Rotman noted. “Given the value of starting pitching, a team with a need for a starter will likely be interested in Stroman, who has a proven track record.
Trading him to a team in need of starting help while replacing him with a better fit makes sense.” Just as Stroman was left out of the postseason roster in 2024, he could be the odd man out in 2025.
A potential trade with a contending team, similar to the Nestor Cortes deal that brought Williams to the Yankees, could be in the works. A team like the Detroit Tigers might be a good fit for Stroman, and the Yankees could package a prospect with him to acquire a hitter such as Jace Jung or Spencer Torkelson.
