BOOST: Yankees Confirms A Blockbuster Potential Infielder After Gleyber Torres’ Departure

The New York Yankees are looking for an infielder after Gleyber Torres signed with the Detroit Tigers.

Currently, Anthony Volpe is expected to be the starting shortstop, with either Jazz Chisholm or Oswaldo Cabrera slated for second base.

However, the team knows they must add depth before the season begins. Could José Iglesias be the answer? Iglesias, who missed half of the 2024 season and all of 2023, had a solid stint with the New York Mets, hitting .337 with 26 RBIs.

Known for his defensive versatility, Iglesias can play second, short, or third base. Despite being 34, he remains capable of starting regularly, though the Yankees may consider using him in a platoon role at second base.

Iglesias is projected to earn just $1.7 million in 2025, which is affordable for the Yankees. In his last full season with the Rockies in 2022, he posted a .292 average with 47 RBIs. Iglesias has maintained a batting average above .250 in every season since 2012, his rookie year.

His defensive and offensive abilities make him a strong fit for the Yankees, and his flexibility would be a valuable asset for manager Aaron Boone.

Over the course of his career, Iglesias has outperformed Gleyber Torres in both areas. While his age could be a concern, he is showing no signs of decline.
