HUGE-BOOST: Yankees Confirm Blockbuster Trade Deal to Swap Marcus Stroman for $35 Million Gold Glove Winner

The New York Yankees are coming off their first World Series appearance since 2009, and general manager Brian Cashman has been actively strengthening the roster following the loss of outfielder Juan Soto to free agency.

One potential target could be Chicago Cubs infielder Nico Hoerner. Despite several offseason moves, there remains a clear need to address second base after Gleyber Torres signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Detroit Tigers, leaving a gap on the infield. If the Yankees decide to keep Jazz Chisholm Jr.

at third base, they’ll need a new second baseman. The Yankees have been linked to Hoerner throughout the offseason, and there are also reports suggesting they are looking to move starting pitcher Marcus Stroman. A hypothetical trade proposed by Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer would see the Yankees acquire Hoerner in exchange for Stroman, infielder Oswaldo Cabrera, shortstop Roderick Arias, and cash.

Rymer notes that while this trade might be a stretch for the Cubs—who wouldn’t be eager to downgrade from Hoerner to Cabrera—the addition of Stroman could bolster their rotation, potentially helping them contend for the NL Central title.

Hoerner, a Gold Glove winner in 2023, is under contract through 2026 on a three-year, $35 million deal, with $11.5 million in 2025 and $12 million in 2026.
