BREAKING: Kansas City Confirms returning veteran pitcher re-signs to one-year deal for 2025

The Kansas City Royals have agreed to a one-year contract with veteran pitcher Michael Lorenzen, valued at $7 million for the 2025 season. The deal also includes a mutual option for 2026, worth $12 million, according to a source who confirmed the details to The Star. Lorenzen, 33, had a strong performance last year, posting a 3.31 ERA across 26 appearances.

Lorenzen joined the Royals midway through the 2024 season following a trade from the Texas Rangers. Over the course of seven games with Kansas City, he continued to impress, allowing just six runs (five earned) in 28 ⅔ innings pitched. His performance down the stretch helped stabilize the Royals’ pitching staff as they finished the season.

Throughout the 2024 season, Lorenzen demonstrated his ability to contribute effectively as both a starter and a reliever. His versatility and consistent pitching made him a valuable addition to the Royals’ roster. The 2025 season will be a pivotal one for Lorenzen as he looks to build on the solid foundation he laid last year.

This re-signing reflects the Royals’ confidence in Lorenzen’s abilities and his role within the team. With the mutual option for 2026, both sides are committed to potentially extending the partnership beyond the upcoming season, making this a key move for the team’s pitching future.
