Mike Vrabel, a highly sought-after coaching candidate, is attracting significant attention for good reason. Over six seasons with the Tennessee Titans, he posted a 54-45 record and led the team to the playoffs three times, including a run to the AFC Championship Game in 2019.
Vrabel has already interviewed with several teams, including the Patriots (where he is expected to land), the Jets, Saints, and Bears.
For the New York Giants, who don’t face uncertainty with their head coach after co-owner John Mara confirmed on Monday that Brian Daboll would remain in charge, Vrabel’s potential move could have an impact on the team. It may lead to a shift in their front office, particularly with Ryan Cowden, the executive advisor to general manager Joe Schoen, possibly leaving.
Cowden, who briefly served as the Titans’ interim GM in 2022, was a key figure Vrabel wanted to stay in place after former GM Jon Robinson was let go. Despite Vrabel’s push for continuity, Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk opted for a new direction and brought in Ran Carthon from the 49ers. After the Titans finished 6-11 in 2023, Cowden was dismissed.
Now that Strunk is no longer in charge, Vrabel seems inclined to bring his own front office staff with him wherever he goes, most likely to New England. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Cowden is expected to be part of that group.
