The New York Yankees are reportedly exploring the possibility of trading starting pitcher Marcus Stroman this winter. Stroman is set to earn $18 million for both 2025 and 2026. After failing to make the Yankees’ World Series roster in 2024, a trade this offseason seems reasonable.
New York is reportedly open to covering part of his contract to facilitate a deal. FanSided’s Austin Owens recently suggested the Atlanta Braves could be the team to acquire Stroman in a significant trade. Owens pointed out that this move would only be feasible if the Yankees are willing to absorb a substantial portion of Stroman’s salary.
He noted that with Spencer Strider recovering from surgery and not expected to be ready for Opening Day, the Braves only have three healthy returning starters: Chris Sale, Reynaldo Lopez, and Spencer Schwellenbach.
Even when Strider returns, Atlanta will still have a vacant spot in their rotation. Owens further stated, “If the Yankees are willing to cover a significant portion of Stroman’s salary, Alex Anthopoulos should pursue the deal to bring him to Atlanta.
” The Braves are aiming to contend for a World Series, and as their roster stands, they may struggle in the competitive NL East. Stroman could be a valuable addition for Atlanta, providing a reliable option to replace Charlie Morton in the rotation, even if he doesn’t take over as the ace.
Bringing him in would likely require a few prospects, but with the Yankees willing to absorb some of his salary, the Braves could make it work.
