The New York Giants are in a prime position to secure a top-tier prospect with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. While it’s uncommon for a pick later than first overall to land the best player in the draft, this year could be an exception for the Giants.
Pro Football Focus’s Jordan Plocher and Josh Liskiewitz recently highlighted one “perfect” prospect for each of the 32 NFL teams ahead of the draft, and they selected Colorado CB/WR Travis Hunter for the Giants. According to the PFF article, Hunter’s unique skill set makes him an ideal fit for New York:
“Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter makes all the sense in the world at No. 3 overall,” the article noted. “Hunter is the top cornerback in the draft after recording five interceptions and an impressive 21.3% forced incompletion percentage. His dual role as a receiver at Colorado not only boosts his defensive game but should also enable him to contribute offensively at the next level.”
Hunter is an extraordinary talent who excels on both sides of the ball. This season, he became the first player in college football history to win both the Chuck Bednarik Award (Defensive Player of the Year) and the Fred Biletnikoff Award (Wide Receiver of the Year). He recorded 1,258 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on offense, and 11 pass defenses and four interceptions on defense.
Drafting Hunter would significantly strengthen both the Giants’ receiving corps and secondary—two areas of need for New York. While there’s a chance he could be selected with the first or second pick, the Titans and Browns are both reportedly interested in quarterbacks, which could push Hunter down to No. 3.
For the Giants, landing Hunter would be an ideal scenario, assuming they have a backup plan for the quarterback position. If Hunter is available at No. 3, he would be a welcome addition to the team and a highly anticipated pick for Giants fans.
