How the New York Giants handle their quarterback situation this offseason is one of the most significant storylines in the NFL. After securing the No. 3 overall pick with a late-season win over the Indianapolis Colts, the Giants may miss out on top quarterbacks like Shedeur Sanders from Colorado or Cam Ward from Miami, both considered the best prospects in the 2025 draft class.
While the team could trade up to select one of these players as a long-term replacement for the departing Daniel Jones, the Giants might instead opt for a more immediate solution, looking to free agency for a reliable bridge quarterback rather than investing heavily in a potentially costly, less-than-ideal option.
Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report predicted on January 17 that the Giants will pursue Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson, signing him to a multi-year deal when free agency begins in mid-March. Moton noted that the Giants will likely sign at least one quarterback for the 2025 season, as they currently don’t have any under contract.
At 36 years old, Wilson could provide a short-term solution and mentor a young quarterback drafted in one of the upcoming drafts. Wilson posted nearly 2,500 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions in 11 starts this season, and has made eight Pro Bowl appearances during his 13-year career. Spotrac estimates his market value at just under $39 million annually for a new two-year deal in 2025.
