After a major basketball upset, the Missouri Tigers received more good news on Tuesday, this time from the football team. Head coach Eli Drinkwitz made a significant move by securing one of the top remaining players in the transfer portal: linebacker Damon Wilson.
Wilson, a former Georgia linebacker, will remain in the SEC as he transfers to Missouri, where he will begin his junior season. The 6’4″, 250-pound EDGE player had a solid season with the Bulldogs, recording 22 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries. His impressive performance earned him a spot as one of the top players in the transfer portal, ranking as the No. 1 EDGE player according to On3.
This move follows the transfer of Wilson’s former Georgia teammate, Darris Smith, to Missouri ahead of the 2024 season. Although Smith missed the entire year due to an ACL injury, he played a key role in recruiting Wilson to join the Tigers, making this addition even more meaningful for the team.
As a sophomore at Georgia, Wilson showcased his durability and skill, playing in all 14 games for the Bulldogs. His contributions on the field included 5.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and a couple of turnovers forced and recovered, solidifying his reputation as a reliable and impactful player.
Once one of the top recruits in the nation, Wilson chose Georgia over other top programs like Alabama and Ohio State just two recruiting cycles ago. Now, he’s ready to bring his talents to Missouri, where he is expected to make an immediate impact on the Tigers’ defense for the 2025 season.
