Report: Cowboys may consider adding a major name to their head coach search
The Dallas Cowboys are taking their time in finding a new head coach and might be looking to add another notable candidate to their list.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media mentioned on Sunday that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Cowboys request an interview with Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.
Rapoport suggested that Dallas has some level of interest in Kingsbury, stating, “It wouldn’t shock me if they reached out to Kliff Kingsbury once he’s eligible, whether it’s after his playing career or not. There’s definitely some interest in him and the potential to explore that.”
Kingsbury recently enhanced his profile with the Commanders’ unexpected victory over the Detroit Lions in the Divisional Round, where they accumulated 481 yards of offense in a 45-31 win over the NFC’s top-seeded team. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels played a significant role in the performance.
Despite this success, it’s likely Kingsbury will stay with the Commanders for another season. At 45, he’s still young for a coach and may not pursue another head coach position unless it’s the perfect opportunity. Kingsbury had a 28-37 record with one playoff appearance during his four years as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. His next NFL head coaching job could be his last.
Kingsbury has reportedly attracted interest from multiple teams. If the Cowboys are serious about interviewing him, it would be surprising if he didn’t at least consider a conversation.
