BOOST: Gamecocks Strengthen Linebacker Corps with Alabama Transfer Commitment

The South Carolina Gamecocks football team has strengthened its linebacker position by securing a commitment from Justin Okoronkwo, a 6-foot-3, 228-pound true freshman who previously played for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Originally from Munich, Germany, Okoronkwo entered the transfer portal last weekend and has decided to continue his collegiate career with the Gamecocks.

During his lone season at Alabama, Okoronkwo played in all 13 games, mostly contributing on special teams and as a defensive reserve, recording 14 tackles and half a tackle for loss.

He began his athletic career in Germany with soccer and gymnastics before switching to American football about five years ago. His rapid progress and physical skills earned him scholarship offers from schools like South Carolina, Michigan, and Penn State, before he ultimately committed to Alabama.

Okoronkwo’s addition is the second linebacker transfer for South Carolina, following the signing of Shawn Murphy from Alabama in December. His diverse athletic background and international experience will add depth to the Gamecocks’ linebacker corps, enhancing their defensive lineup for the upcoming season.
