After one season with the NC State football program, redshirt freshman cornerback Tamarcus Cooley entered the transfer portal on January 2. This week, the 5-foot-11, 205-pound cornerback from North Carolina announced his commitment to the LSU Tigers.
During his time at NC State, Cooley made a significant impact, starting 12 games in the Wolfpack secondary. He registered 39 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three interceptions, two quarterback hurries, and six pass breakups.
Cooley, who was ranked as a three-star transfer prospect, is ranked No. 237 overall and No. 32 among cornerbacks in the transfer portal by 247Sports. As a high school recruit from Rolesville High School (N.C.), he was ranked No. 988 overall and No. 28 in the state on the 247Sports 2023 Composite list.
Cooley is one of 17 NC State players who have entered the transfer portal, with three others from the secondary: safeties Bishop Fitzgerald and Devan Boykin, and cornerback Brandon Cisse. Meanwhile, NC State’s coaching staff, led by 13th-year head coach Dave Doeren, has added 10 incoming transfers, including three secondary players: former Missouri cornerback Jaren Sensabaugh, Temple cornerback Jamel Johnson, and Georgia State safety Jeremiah Johnson.
