BREAKING: Royals Land Three High-Potential MLB Prospects to Boost Future Talent

As the MLB international signing period approaches, the 2025 class is generating significant excitement, led by Japanese sensation Roki Sasaki. While many teams are vying for Sasaki’s signature, the Kansas City Royals are focusing on a different strategy, targeting a group of highly-rated international prospects, all of whom rank in the top 50 according to MLB Pipeline.

Baseball America recently released its projected top bonus board, listing players expected to earn the highest bonuses in this signing period. While the Royals’ targets are not at the top in terms of monetary value, they are highly regarded by MLB Pipeline.

Among the most sought-after is Warren Calcaño, a 6-foot-2 switch-hitting shortstop from the Dominican Republic. Calcaño’s exceptional defensive skills, quick footwork, and advanced instincts make him a standout in the field. Scouts project him as a natural shortstop with a strong arm that could grow even more powerful with added strength.

At the plate, Calcaño’s bat-to-ball skills from both sides of the plate are impressive, though his power is still developing.

Another promising target for the Royals is Ramcell Medina, a 6-foot-2 Dominican shortstop with a polished offensive approach. Medina’s bat-to-ball skills and ability to consistently produce line drives set him apart from his peers. His power is concentrated on the pull side for now, but his physical growth suggests future power potential.

Defensively, Medina has shown improvement in his footwork and actions, increasing his chances of staying at shortstop, though his versatility also allows him to play third base if needed. His combination of offensive maturity and defensive potential makes him an exciting prospect for the Royals.

Warren Calcaño, Ramcell Medina and Moises Marchán

In addition, Venezuelan catcher Moises Marchán is another target for Kansas City. Marchán, standing at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, is an athletic catcher with exceptional defensive skills, including a strong arm and the ability to control the running game.

His impressive 6.4-second 60-yard dash time adds an uncommon level of speed to his profile, especially for a catcher. Offensively, Marchán displays good bat-to-ball skills and has the potential for 15-20 home runs as he continues to grow physically. His solid performance and athleticism make him an intriguing addition to the Royals’ system.

The Royals have been increasing their activity in the international market in recent years, and with signings like Calcaño, Medina, and Marchán, they are poised to strengthen their farm system significantly. These three high-upside players offer a promising future for the franchise, as they continue to shift their strategy and build a competitive international scouting program.
