Chris Klieman and the Kansas State Wildcats missed out on linebacker Jayshawn Ross when he chose Alabama over K-State during his high school recruitment from Liberty North. However, Ross is now ready to join the Wildcats after transferring from Alabama.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound defender will play a hybrid role for Kansas State, offering versatility as both a defensive end and linebacker, especially as a pass rusher. Defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman will likely find various ways to utilize Ross’s skills once he joins the team.
Though Ross didn’t see any playing time for Alabama during his freshman season, the Wildcats were familiar with his talent, having recruited him as a four-star prospect. Klieman and his staff prioritized him in the transfer portal, and despite the Crimson Tide winning his recruitment battle over K-State and Nebraska, Ross ultimately chose to transfer to Kansas State.
Ross’s commitment brings the total number of incoming transfers to 10 for the Wildcats this cycle. He joins a solid group of transfers, including Jerand Bradley (Boston College), Gabe Ervin (Nebraska), Amarion Fortenberry (South Alabama), Gunner Maldonado (Arizona), Mar’Quavious Moss (West Georgia), Gabe Powers (Ohio State), Jayden Rowe (Oklahoma), Amos Talalele (USC), and Jaron Tibbs (Purdue).
