New York Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown is taking a significant step toward a potential promotion.
According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, the Las Vegas Raiders recently conducted an in-person interview with Brown for their open general manager position. This marks his second interview with the team, signaling that he is a leading candidate for the role.
At just 35 years old, Brown has quickly become one of the NFL’s most promising front-office executives. Since joining the Giants in 2022 as Joe Schoen’s assistant GM, he has played a vital role in shaping the team’s roster. Prior to his time with the Giants, Brown spent five years with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he served as director of pro scouting and later as director of player personnel, contributing to the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning roster in 2017.
Brown is now one of the top contenders for the Raiders’ GM position, competing with candidates like Chargers assistant GM Chad Alexander. Brown’s experience spans college recruiting, scouting, and high-level personnel management.
If Brown were to leave, it would create a significant gap in the Giants’ front office. As one of the few executives with an impressive track record, his departure would be a blow to the team’s infrastructure. However, under the NFL’s Rooney Rule, the Giants would receive compensatory third-round picks in the next two drafts if Brown is hired by the Raiders.
Despite his rise, Brown’s current role under Joe Schoen has limitations. A controversial decision by Schoen to let Saquon Barkley join the Eagles still haunts Giants fans, with reports suggesting that Brown did not fully agree with the move. This highlights Brown’s relatively restricted influence within the organization.
Even if Brown remains with the Giants, his potential impact may be constrained by Schoen’s leadership. Given his skill set and vision, Brown could likely thrive in a more prominent role elsewhere. Had he been the GM, the Giants might have avoided some recent setbacks and set a more competitive course.
Losing Brown would be difficult for the Giants, but the compensatory picks could provide an opportunity to reload. With the team still far from championship contention, those picks could lead to valuable talent—like rookie standout Dru Phillips, who has already made an impact.
As Brown’s career continues to rise, his next move may be to Las Vegas, serving as a reminder of the importance of developing and capitalizing on front-office talent.
