Boogie Basham has become the second veteran from the New York Giants’ 2024 practice squad to join a new team. The edge defender has signed a reserve/futures contract with the Carolina Panthers.
Wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins, another practice squad member, also signed a futures contract with the San Francisco 49ers shortly after the 2024 regular season ended.
Basham, a second-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2021, has struggled to meet expectations for that draft position. Over two seasons with the Bills, he recorded 4.5 sacks in a part-time role. Giants GM Joe Schoen acquired Basham, along with a 2025 seventh-round pick, in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick.
However, Basham failed to make an impact during his time with the Giants. In two seasons, he played just 280 defensive snaps, had no sacks, recorded only one quarterback hit, and posted 20 tackles. He spent most of the 2024 season on the practice squad and was active for only four games.
