The South Carolina Gamecocks are set to have a former player selected in the first round of the upcoming NFL draft, according to the latest mock draft.
The Gamecocks had a standout season in 2024, suffering only three regular-season losses and finishing strong with a winning streak. Although they were defeated in their bowl game by Illinois, the season was still considered a success for head coach Shane Beamer and his team.
While the Gamecocks will lose several key players to the NFL this offseason, they also have promising young talent on the roster. One of their standout veterans, safety Nick Emmanwori, will be among those leaving. Emmanwori had another stellar season, and his performances are drawing increasing attention.
In his latest first-round mock draft, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. included Emmanwori, predicting that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would select him 19th overall. Kiper praised Emmanwori’s skills, noting that he has closed the gap with other top safety prospects.
“Emmanwori is going to be a red-hot prospect throughout the predraft process,” Kiper wrote, highlighting his impressive size and athleticism. Emmanwori’s four interceptions this season, including two pick-sixes, made him an appealing choice for the Buccaneers, where he could pair with Antoine Winfield Jr. to strengthen their defense.
Emmanwori wrapped up his college career with 244 tackles, four tackles for loss, and six interceptions. His decision to enter the NFL draft after just three years in college seems to be a promising move, as his stock continues to rise.
