The final week of the January transfer window has arrived, and Newcastle United has yet to make a new signing. However, the club is reportedly preparing to make a £16m bid to strengthen Eddie Howe’s attacking options, amid ongoing speculation about Miguel Almiron’s future at St James’ Park.
According to Turkish outlet Milliyet, the Magpies are willing to offer €19m to secure the signing of Besiktas forward Semih Kılıçsoy, aiming to beat their Premier League rivals to the 19-year-old’s signature before the window closes next week. Kılıçsoy, who can play on either wing or as a central forward, earned a call-up to the senior Turkey squad after his debut in a goalless draw with Italy last summer.
Following a strong 2023 season where he scored 12 goals and assisted 3 in 35 appearances, Kılıçsoy has continued to impress this season with two goals and six assists. Besiktas is currently fighting to advance in the Europa League and recently secured a 1-0 win over Sivasspor in the Turkish Cup.
His performances have drawn interest from clubs across Europe, with Newcastle initially linked to him last summer. Aston Villa is also said to be among the clubs interested, but reports suggest that Newcastle may make the first move to add Kılıçsoy to their squad in the coming days to bolster their attack before the transfer window closes.
