BREAKING: White Sox Bolster Bullpen with New Addition

On Thursday, the San Diego Padres made a move to strengthen their bullpen, announcing the acquisition of right-handed pitcher Ron Marinaccio from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations. The 29-year-old Marinaccio, known for his strong arm, had spent recent seasons with the New York Yankees before being claimed off waivers by the White Sox toward the end of 2024.

The Padres confirmed the move on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, saying, “We have acquired RHP Ron Marinaccio from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for cash considerations.”

Although he didn’t pitch for the White Sox, Marinaccio brings a solid track record of high strikeout rates and significant potential to San Diego’s bullpen. Over 91 1/3 innings with the Yankees in 2022 and 2023, he posted a 3.05 ERA and an impressive 29% strikeout rate, though his 13.2% walk rate suggested some control struggles.

In 2024, Marinaccio made some strides with his command, lowering his walk rate to 10.1%. However, his strikeout rate dropped to 25.3%, and he finished the season with a 3.86 ERA. Overall, he holds a career 3.22 ERA in 114 2/3 MLB innings, with a 28.2% strikeout rate and a 12.6% walk rate.
