The 33-year-old’s debut with Carlisle was marred by a rough start. Dummett was scheduled to play against Bradford City but missed out after being involved in a car accident, which kept him out of their 1-0 loss.
Carlisle manager Mike Williamson, a former Newcastle United defender, gave Dummett another chance the following week against Fleetwood Town. He started in a back three but had to come off after injuring his hamstring.
“It was his hamstring, unfortunately,” Williamson explained after the match. “It’s just one of those unlucky situations, and he was obviously disappointed not to be involved last week. Unfortunately, that’s football. But he’s an experienced player. He was on the bench, supporting the lads, helping us through, and his experience will still be valuable for us.”
Carlisle managed a 2-1 win thanks to a late Samuel Levelle goal, offering them a much-needed boost as they climbed off the bottom of the table. However, they remain five points adrift of safety.
The hamstring injury adds to a series of setbacks for Dummett, who hasn’t played regularly since the 2018-19 season. He saw a move down to a lower division as an opportunity for more first-team action.
Dummett’s brief stint at Wigan Athletic earlier this season lasted just three games before his transfer to Carlisle. Williamson didn’t comment on the extent of the injury, as Carlisle prepares for their upcoming match against Notts County.
